Teacher’s Day — Tribute at Table Mountain
A 24-second FOOH CGI video created for Teacher’s Day, turning a night aerial view of Cape Town into an emotional drone-light tribute above Table Mountain.
A Teacher’s Day message transformed into a city-scale digital tribute.
Western Cape Education Department needed a bright and unconventional Teacher’s Day campaign that would feel more emotional and memorable than a standard greeting.
The goal was to create visually strong FOOH content with a clear wow effect, combining the real city with a digital spectacle.
The campaign was designed for a broad South African online audience — young people, families, the education community and social media users, with TikTok as the key platform.
The CGI drone show had to feel like a real night event over Cape Town.
The key constraint was photorealistic CGI integration into a real environment. Night aerial footage required careful reproduction of city lighting, atmosphere, perspective and drone-light behavior.
The final message had to remain readable for social media viewing, while the first visual beat needed to create immediate attention.
The challenge was not just to show drones, but to make the motion, scale and light formations feel organic enough to resemble a real drone show.
A swarm of light travels through night Cape Town and becomes a tribute in the sky.
The concept was built around a journey: a light swarm of drones moves through the night city toward Table Mountain, turning the familiar skyline into a stage for an emotional Teacher’s Day tribute.
The key wow moment is the drone swarm gathering near Table Mountain and synchronously transforming into a giant light message for teachers above the city.

A structured pipeline for shaping a CGI drone show before final render.
Storyboard
The journey through the night city and final sky-message moment were mapped first.
Animatic
Drone timing, motion rhythm and message readability were tested early.
Production
Drone swarm behavior, formations and motion logic were built and animated.
Compositing
Drone light, city atmosphere and night footage were integrated into one believable scene.
Final adaptations
The final FOOH video was prepared for social platforms and campaign communication channels.
The technical core was making hundreds of CGI light points move like a believable drone show.
The most difficult part was creating convincing behavior for a large number of drones: their trajectories, speed, spacing and transformation into the final message had to feel natural.
The CGI also had to sit inside night aerial footage with complex city lighting, atmosphere and perspective.
The movement was designed as a dramatic journey rather than a static effect, building anticipation before the final Teacher’s Day message appears near Table Mountain.
The production used Cinema 4D, Redshift, After Effects, compositing tools and VFX workflows.
Drone timing, formation scale and final-message readability shaped the revision process.

“Thank you for creating such an emotional and large-scale project.”
A viral Teacher’s Day tribute with 6.5 million TikTok views.
The project received strong organic response on TikTok, reaching 6.5 million views and 22.7 thousand likes.
The high level of views, audience reaction and organic sharing showed that the content was perceived as a large-scale event worth sharing.
The project also confirmed the value of a storytelling-driven FOOH approach: instead of simply showing a visual trick, it turned Teacher’s Day into an emotional digital spectacle.
